"Switch" is the story of Ellora and June who forty years ago were infants switched at birth. The story starts out with the women meeting after learning of the switch and after they have independently decided to accept the settlements being offered by the hospital where they were born. Both women at at a crossroads in their lives.
Ellora has abandoned a loveless marriage and her husband of 20 years to explore the lesbian nature she has finally recognized for what it is.
June is a lesbian who was raised by a family of hippies. She longs for a child and a life seen as 'normal'. She has undergone artificial insemination to accomplish the pregnancy and at the beginning of the story is at the beginning of her pregnancy.
The settlement each woman received is instrumental in propelling the changes they long for.
The two women find a burgeoning attraction and form a friendship to help each other face the challenges of meeting new parents and forming new family relationships.
I wasn't sure I would like this story as I didn't know how the author would make it work but it does work and I like our heroines. It is an entertaining read.
I have a some minor issues with the fact the the Blue Sky family seems a bit too much the stereotypical hippie commune types. I also think that Ellora, as someone just accepting her sexuality, handles all the changes in her life just a bit too easily.
All in all an OK way to spend some time.

Switch Q Kelly 9781475022810 Books Reviews
This book was a fun read. It was another well written book by Q. Kelly. I always enjoy how wonderfully the twisted love interest of the characters develop! I am a fan of Q.Kelly's writing style and will continue to check for new books.
First off ... I have read other books from Q. Kelly that I have enjoyed and would recommend. However, I felt the author missed the mark on this one. I never felt or understood the attraction between the two women and therefor never rooted for them to get together.
I had several issues with the story and found most of Ellora's actions implausible ... her impulsive action during her first meeting with June, her decision to live with two men she didn't know even though she surely could have afforded her own apartment, her sharing her "sex list" with June, the drastic changes to Ellora's appearance and dress, leaving town with no contact, etc.
The families of both Ellora and June are stereotypical ... June's free loving hippy family and Ellora's conservative parents. I also found the names given to June's parents and family to be a distraction when reading.
I felt the relationship between Ellora and June was rushed and forced ... there was not enough character building to make the attraction believable. Given the premise of the story, the relationship between Ellora and June should have been allowed to develop slowly and more naturally. In I can honestly say when I finished the book I still did not get why they were in love with each other.
I neither loved or disliked this book. I really do not know how to describe my feelings. The whole time I was reading I continued to ask myself "would/could this really happen this way?" When I say this I am not refering to the switching of babys. I refer to interactions between individuals. Things they did or maybe the way they did things.
Other books I have read by Ms. Kelly I have enjoyed, just not this one. I felt that the concept was good but could have been developed a little differently.
This is third book by Q. Kelly that I have read. They are all completely different. You don't get points for figuring out her plan and then expect all her books to fit it. They don't. I fully expect they won't. She writes a voice for each of her characters and like them or not her writing is true to each character. My comments don't reflect her short story collections as I have yet to read them.
Now the book The main characters have been switched at birth. Forty years later the switch has been revealed and the effects are now rippling around these two people and their, now extended, families. She writes from the view of one and then the other. The voices are perfect for each. I loved both of them.
Ellora was born to hippie parents but raised by conservatives (ouch). Within the last year she has fully accepted that women are her preferred confection. She has yet to act on it. A lot of the story is about her coming out.
June is her reverse. She has only preferred women and has had a series of slowly failed relationships. The result is she has pretty much given up on love, or at least relationships.
The possible outcome are probably endless but we know that destiny has wrapped them together. There are dark things each have to overcome, some family members are concerned and they don't seem to be headed in the same direction. How ever will it come out? Funny, sexy and well done is how I read it. Enjoy it yourself.
